Rachel R. Harrison-Outman is a senior at George Mason University graduating with a B.S. in Criminology in Spring of 2014. In her final Fall semester at George Mason, Rachel opted to take a course in digital history to satisfy the undergraduate general education requirement for information technology. In the final project for the course students were asked to build a website using an Onmason.com site while supporting a historical argument.
After numerous topic changes, Rachel decided on a topic that would speak to her interest over the past decade, The Great Migration. There’s more to this topic than just the historical aspect, this has also been a personal journey for Rachel. Answering the question, “Why did my great-grandmother, Gilrease Jefferson, migrate from Water Valley, MS to Chicago in the early 1900’s?” And what drew so many others from the South to Chicago?
